About the Role
The ARC plays a vital role in providing independent oversight and expert advice to the Board and executive leadership. The committee is responsible for reviewing the appropriateness and effectiveness of financial reporting, risk management frameworks, internal control systems, and both internal and external audit functions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting Oversight – Monitor the integrity and appropriateness of financial reporting processes and ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
Risk Management Oversight – Provide strategic advice on risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies.
Internal Control Evaluation – Review and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of internal control systems.
Auditor Oversight – Oversee the performance of both internal and external auditors, including scope, independence, and outcomes.
Independent Advisory – Deliver independent and objective advice to the Board on matters related to finance, risk, and governance.
Compliance Assurance – Ensure adherence to all relevant legal, regulatory, and policy obligations.
Stakeholder Assurance – Offer confidence to stakeholders that risk, control, and compliance systems are robust and fit-for-purpose.
Committee Composition
We are looking for experienced professional practitioners who are:
Independent – Not employed by the organisation, ensuring objective and impartial advice.
Qualified – With demonstrated expertise in finance, accounting, auditing, and/or risk management.
Experienced – Ideally, have prior committee or board experience.
Committed – Able to attend and actively contribute to regular committee meetings and reviews.
Additionally, we are seeking experienced professionals with executive expertise in cyber security and digital transformation to join the Audit and Risk Committee, bringing strategic insights and robust governance to the Department of the Environment, Tourism Science and Innovation.
A minimum of three members typically constitutes the committee, and appointments are made by the Board or accountable authority.
