About the Role
Group Chief Executive Officer
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is responsible for setting the strategic direction and vision for the Cowboys Group of entities and effectively leading the organisation to ensure its long-term growth, performance, success, and viability. It is the key leadership position for the Cowboys brand and is accountable for establishing and developing strong relationships and ongoing positive engagement of the community, external stakeholders, and partners. The Group CEO exists to ensure the North Queensland Cowboys are the club that people are inspired to be a part of and can't be without.
Your Accountabilities
As the Group Chief Executive Officer, you will:
Dimensions
Total Group Asset Value ~100m.
Annual Group Revenue ~90m.
Total Headcount ~300-320.
Strategic Execution
Develop and execute the Cowboy’s strategic plan, ensuring that all departments are aligned with the Club’s strategic goals.
Establish clear priorities and plans to operationalise the Club’s strategy.
Champion the organisation by promoting and strategically positioning the Cowboys.
Ensure the Board is provided with regular updates and reporting on the progress of strategic goals, enabling informed support and endorsement for the Club’s strategy and direction.
Leadership
Build, develop, and lead a strong executive leadership, providing guidance and support and development opportunities.
Implement succession planning for the Executive Leadership Team, to ensure continuity of leadership across the organisation.
Clearly communicate the vision and strategic objectives and inspire collective ownership across the organisation.
Define, promote, and embed the company’s culture, values, and ethical standards.
Manage the performance and development of team members, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and performance-driven culture.
Work with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and build organisational capability and performance and to retain and attract talent across all levels of the business.
Drive awareness of workplace health and safety and risk management across the organisation.
Financial Management and Stewardship
Track, monitor, and report on the organisation’s financial performance, ensuring that it meets its financial targets, manages risk effectively, and remains profitable.
Liaise with the Board to identify measures of success and performance targets for the organisation.
Develop and implement a budget and forecasting cycle that enables the Club to achieve its strategic objectives and targets.
Consolidate traditional revenue streams and identify non-traditional revenue streams to drive profitability, growth and organisational value.
Manage all expenditure and future investment for the organisation, ensuring that commercial decisions take into account current and future market conditions.
Stakeholder Relationship and Engagement
Identify relevant government, non-government, and community stakeholders and establish and foster productive and sustainable relationships.
Engage with stakeholders and partners to secure ongoing operational funding and capital and ensure the growth and viability of the Cowboy’s.
Build and grow The Cowboy’s presence and inform, promote, and educate on what the organisation does across its different entities.
Identify and build a pipeline of key partnerships for the charitable foundation.
Work with external partners and stakeholders to identify relevant, charitable initiatives and programs that support the values and mission of the Cowboy’s.
What Success Looks Like
We are looking for someone with:
The position requires a substantial knowledge of and experience in management, at a senior level, of a client focussed service industry. Senior management level experience in a public-sector organisation and experience in reporting to elected officials is desirable.
Specific Knowledge and Demonstrated Experience
To succeed in all aspects of guiding and directing a large, complex organisation, you will be skilled in in:

Formulation of capital investment recommendations
Preparation, negotiation and administration of major contracts

Leadership
Demonstrated experience and achievements in delivering public value and leading organisational change, including:
Leading organisational performance to deliver coordinated, responsive, and customer-focused outcomes.
Maintaining and developing relationships across organisational boundaries to drive consistent and seamless delivery and the direction of resources to corporate priorities.
Managing complex and contentious issues with high sensitivity and competing stakeholder interests
Business / Operational Capability
Demonstrated experience and achievements in managing business through:
Developing an engaged, productive, and customer-focused workforce.
Delivering systems and processes which deliver value to the organisation and to the customer.
Planning the resourcing of services with appropriate risk management to meet demand within budget.
Building new collaborative models with suppliers and program partners to improve public value.
Demonstrating a focus on shared outcomes, negotiating budget and resources across the organisation, and submitting joint budget proposals.
Executive Service
Demonstrated ability to undertake broad executive leadership beyond the specific requirements of the position, across the organisation, including the ability to:
Collaborate and share accountability across organisational boundaries
Participate in strategic decision making; represent the organisation to the community, other levels of Government and to industry.
Own and champion corporate values, strategies, policy, and directions.
Champion the strategic corporate management agendas on issues such as customer service, service delivery, change management and people management, and integrate these principles into the operation of the business.
Qualifications and Formal Training
Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications such as Business, Management, or similar, which in the view of the Chief Executive Officer are relevant to the role of the position.
