About the role:
Director, Cabinet and Parliamentary Services
Strategy and Reform Division
Your opportunity
In the role of Director, Cabinet and Parliament Services (CAPS), you will work with a high degree of independence and liaise extensively with a wide range of functional areas within the department.
The position strategically leads and manages the operations of the CAPS team to ensure the timely provision of professional, high-quality liaison and executive services in support of the Director-General, Minister, and other DHLGPPW senior executives as it relates to the Cabinet and Parliament functions.
Your accountabilities
The Director, Cabinet and Parliamentary Services will:
Oversee the management of the Minister’s and department’s Cabinet and Parliament business, including preparing and coordinating sensitive Cabinet briefing notes, correspondence and discussion papers.
Lead, manage and coordinate the flow of information between the Minister and the department on Cabinet and Parliament matters.
Provide leadership and collaborate with senior executives and subject matter experts to deliver contemporary Cabinet and Parliament services ensuring that tight timelines are met with exceptional quality.
Lead and enhance processes and procedures on all levels that ensure Cabinet and Parliament services are delivered on time, at a high quality, confidential and within the scope desired by senior stakeholders.
Liaise with senior officers on the preparation of Cabinet and Parliament materials, and other related executive government activities, to ensure that they meet corporate and ministerial requirements.
Prepare and write detailed and structured briefing papers and documents related to the Cabinet process
Alongside senior stakeholders, proactively manage emergent and critical Cabinet and Parliament issues.
Lead and manage a team whose purpose it is to provide a high level of Cabinet and executive support services to the Director-General.
Review and provide quality assurance on Cabinet and Parliament materials, including briefing notes, correspondence and discussion papers, relevant to the Minister’s responsibilities.

The ideal person for this role will:
Have knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Cabinet, Cabinet Committee and Parliament processes.
Be a natural relationship builder, able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
Be a leader of a team, able to coach and mentor team members to deliver exceptional services.
Make appropriate decisions based on policies and past precedents and read and comprehend technical or legal documents.
Contribute to workplace equity, diversity, respect and inclusion that enriches our culture of respect and inclusion.
There are no mandatory requirements of the role, however, qualifications in public administration, public policy or law would be desirable.
