Our Team

Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a marine rescue service dedicated to protecting the safety of the Queensland boating community. Marine Rescue Queensland, established in 2024 is Queensland’s first single integrated state-wide service, serving the state’s coastline and waterways.

You will work collaboratively with volunteers and internal and external stakeholders to deliver standardised and integrated communication and engagement strategies. Managing media, external communications, social media and marketing on behalf of MRQ, you will have a front row seat in creating effective and engaging content for our on-water community. From managing media strategies, through to community safety campaigns, your experience and skills will make a real difference to community safety.

Your accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Lead, develop and implement high-level projects and initiatives that directly build and enhance volunteer capabilities to meet divergent and geographically diverse community risk profiles.

  • Research, design and implement strategies in order to deliver robust, sustainable and inclusive recruitment and retention programs to support operations, meet organisational requirements and build workforce capability.

  • Prepare and review complex reports, briefing notes, submissions, and other correspondence relating to volunteer issues and outcomes, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.

  • Lead, manage and participate in departmental initiatives and programs to support ongoing operational improvement strategies and/or provide recommendations to enable effective decision making.

  • Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with a wide range of external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds that align with MRQ’s values, strategic objectives, and goals.

  • Represent the department on high-level state committees, meetings, forums and working groups to ensure best practice planning, development, review and implementation of operational policy and procedures.

  • Lead and manage the team in the implementation and delivery of both internal and external grants to support MRQ groups and disaster management stakeholders.

  • Develop, maintain and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement operational policy and business rules focused on continual enhancement of the service. 

Role Requirements

    • Strong knowledge of Queensland’s disaster management arrangements or emergency response landscape

    • Proven ability to design and deliver stakeholder engagement strategies in complex environments.

    • Experience building operational or service delivery frameworks within a volunteer-based context, NFP, or government

    • Experience leading people with clarity, supporting their growth, and fostering resilience.

    • A calm, grounded presence that brings stability to fast-moving situations and the willingness to help define the culture of an emerging Queensland rescue service.

    • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating integrated public affairs, marketing and communication strategies, policies and procedures.

    • Knowledge and experience of Queensland Government advertising requirements e.g., Government Advertising and Communication Committee (GACC) are highly desirable.

    • Marketing, Media or Communications or similar qualifications are highly desirable.
