Your Opportunity
The Director, Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of QRIC, providing leadership and strategic advice on financial matters. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner, this role works closely with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to ensure effective budgeting, financial planning, and reporting while supervising the finance team.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Compliance: Lead and manage the finance function, including procurement, ensuring efficient operations, compliance with accounting standards, and alignment with QRIC’s strategic goals.
Budgeting & Financial Planning: Develop and manage QRIC’s annual budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently in line with organisational priorities.
Reporting & Analysis: Oversee the preparation of accurate financial reports, forecasts, and budgets, providing strategic financial analysis and advice to ELT to support decision-making.
Regulatory & Audit Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial legislation, regulations, and accounting standards, including government audit and reporting requirements.
Risk & Asset Management: Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, implementing controls to safeguard QRIC’s financial assets and maintain adequate liquidity and solvency.
Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring team members have the necessary skills and training.
Strategic Contribution: Provide financial insights and recommendations to support QRIC’s growth and sustainability, contributing to the development and execution of strategic objectives.
Executive Leadership: Participate as a senior member of the ELT, providing expert advice on strategic and operational financial issues to ensure alignment with QRIC’s objectives.
Workplace Culture & Compliance: Foster a supportive work environment, encourage continuous improvement, ensure timely reporting of non-compliance issues, and uphold workplace health and safety (WHS) standards.
Ethics & Integrity: Demonstrate ethical behaviour and integrity in line with the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring QRIC’s financial sustainability and operational success.
What We Are Looking For
A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., CPA).
All employees are expected to role model leadership behaviours. This role requires the leadership competencies of a Project Leader as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland.
You will be required to demonstrate the following:

A balanced leader who combines vision, practicality, problem-solving abilities and a servant-leader mindset to inspire and support others whilst collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in leading digital initiatives from inception to delivery, guiding organisations through digital transitions and ensuring successful adoption.
Strong ability and experience in leveraging data and systems to optimise organisational performance through effective data capture, analysis, reporting and evidence-based continual improvement activities.
Strong diligence and commitment to maintaining cybersecurity best practices to ensure data security and regulatory compliance.
Experience in managing budgets, cost optimisation and ensuring return on investment on digital projects.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex digital concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
High level of initiative, resilience and adaptability in a dynamic and changing environment.
Additional Information
To be appointed to this position, you must be an Australian citizen and have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. You are required to notify QRIC if your right to work in Australia ceases.
Flexible work arrangements may be considered for the role.
A three-month probationary period applies to successful candidates external to the public sector.
All employees are subject to a mandatory gambling restrictions policy that prohibits gambling on racing events throughout Australia and internationally and must declare and disclose all gambling accounts.
Newly appointed public service employees must disclose any employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years within one month of starting.
All employees are subject to a conflict-of-interest policy and must sign a conflict-of-interest form. You may be precluded from consideration for this position if any private interest or relationship constitutes a conflict of interest under the Conflict-of-Interest Policy, guidelines and procedures that cannot be reasonably managed.
