About the role
The Senior Manager, Events Strategy will lead the identification, creation, strategic development, management, delivery, and optimisation of South Bank Corporation’s events and activations. The primary objective is to enhance South Bank’s visitor experience while contributing to the broader city-wide event landscape. This role is responsible for hosting and curating innovative and sustainable events, fostering high-value partnerships and sponsorships, delivering commercial outcomes, driving brand reputation, and ensuring a lasting legacy through exceptional event experiences.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver and report against the Corporation’s endorsed Events Strategy and relevant components of the annual Business Plan.
Manage the Events components of the Customer Experience budget, ensuring all initiatives are delivered on time and within forecast.
Host and curate innovative and sustainable events that align with South Bank Corporation's vision, values, and brand, ensuring world-class execution.
Identify initiatives to optimise event value while safeguarding and enhancing South Bank Corporation’s reputation.
Develop and integrate best practices to enhance event offerings and audience experience.
Oversee the event calendar, balancing recurring, and new activations.
Utilise data-driven insights, competitor analysis, and emerging trends to inform strategic decisions.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to establish event objectives, KPIs, and evaluation frameworks.

Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications to develop sponsorship packages and secure funding or partnership opportunities, where appropriate.
Identify and formalise partnerships with organisations, venues, and stakeholders to enhance event delivery.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to enhance event visibility and audience engagement.

Serve as the primary contact for senior executives, sponsors, and high-profile clients, in conjunction with the GM and CEO.
Develop and manage relationships with various stakeholders, including event proponents, tourism operators, governing bodies, promoters, sponsors, government agencies, third-party event companies, suppliers, and venue owners/managers.
Communicate event updates and deliverables through reports, meetings, and presentations.
Foster strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, sponsors, and media.

Identify initiatives to optimise the value of events and experiences while safeguarding and enhancing South Bank Corporation's reputation.
Mentor, develop and lead a professional team of event planners and producers, connecting them to their individual and team goals and organisational plan.
Negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders to set objectives and measure event success.
Ensure all contracts are negotiated and executed in compliance with business policies, processes, and strategic priorities.
Participate in work activities outside of normal working hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for event management and attendance.

Represent the Corporation as a senior leader on internal and external forums.
Lead a professional team of event planners and producers, aligning them with the goals of the Customer Experience team, other Corporation teams and the whole of organisation.
Conduct ongoing performance management and support the professional development of team members.

Develop and manage event budgets, including forecasts, allocations, and contingency planning.
Oversee delegations and approve expenditures in line with financial policies.

Prepare propositions and business cases for new event initiatives, assessing feasibility and impact.
Provide detailed post-event reports with recommendations for future improvements.
Assess the contribution of events to broader organisational goals, including brand impact, revenue generation, and community engagement.
Deliver reports and insights to the CEO and relevant departments.
Participate in work activities outside of normal working hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for event management and attendance.

Tertiary qualifications in Arts, Business, Tourism, Event Management, or related disciplines.
Proven experience in strategic event planning and execution within a complex organisational environment.
Experience and network within the event delivery sector across varied sub-sectors including and not restricted to arts & culture, live sites/sport, education and community groups.
Knowledge of diverse destinations and experiences, along with a strong understanding of event trends and best practices.
Ability to analyse market trends and incorporate insights into event strategies.
Proven leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to guide staff and project teams towards collective goals while fostering professional development.
Strong budget and financial management experience, with a proven understanding of contractual requirements in event planning.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a challenging environment.
Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Well-developed organisational, administrative, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage confidential and politically or commercially sensitive material with discretion.
Private sector experience in a relevant discipline is advantageous.
