About the Role
Executive Director, Communication and Events
As the Executive Director, you will:
Provide leadership in achieving organisational objectives by delivering a suite of comprehensive and integrated strategic communication and engagement functions.
Protect and enhance the department’s reputation through innovative program, event, public relations, social media, sponsorship, communication and marketing strategies.
Provide authoritative and strategic advice to the Director-General, the Minister’s Office and senior executives.
This position is accountable to the Deputy Director-General, Early Childhood Regulation and Communication. The position has (4) direct reports:
Director Public Affairs
Director Events and Programs
Director Partnerships and Marketing
Director Transformation and Integration
Role Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The position requires strong professional leadership and management capabilities. The role requires an ability to lead, manage and monitor service delivery to deliver government priorities along with excellence in client service delivery. The Executive Director is to provide high level leadership particularly by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
As an executive your performance will be assessed according to four key accountability perspectives: financial, stakeholder and outcome, internal business, and learning and growth.
Financial
Lead and deliver significant state-wide events in partnership with internal stakeholders and corporate partners within agreed budgets and timeframes.
Oversee a wide range of effective programs, communication, media and marketing campaigns that generate positive outcomes and maximise investment.
Lead the design, development, implementation and evaluation of corporate sponsorship, campaign advertising and partnership arrangements to ensure a high return on investment.
Stakeholder and outcome
Develop and foster strategic partnerships with executive and ministerial staff that deliver positive relationships and improved outcomes.
Demonstrate strategic communication knowledge leadership and represent the department on inter-governmental groups or external forums.
Build and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership to negotiate outcomes, influence and progress priorities, and ensure readiness and capability to respond to changes in strategic objectives.
Lead the development of internal and external communication strategy development and execution.
Internal business
Identify and manage emerging communication and media issues in a proactive and responsive manner and provide solution-focussed advice to senior executives on all strategic communication, media, event and marketing issues.
Collaborate with the Office of the Director-General and Minister’s Office on the preparation of media strategy, media responses, speeches and media releases.
Lead the department’s crisis and emergency communication function.
Learning and growth
Develop and implement mechanisms to analyse and evaluate key communication and engagement activities that inform strategic decision-making.
Foster a high performing culture of collaboration that supports capability development within a high performing, agile project environment.
Person requirements
The position requires a person who will take personal responsibility for serving the government of the day and meeting the needs of the people and communities of Queensland. As an executive you will work towards a system of world class service delivery and public sector management.
You will have a record of success as a leader in a large and complex organisation with outstanding leadership ability.
You will have extensive experience across the public, private and/or not for profit sector and you will have a strong background in strategy and policy implementation, service delivery, and client service. You will have a proven track record as an agent of change in challenging environments and in fostering a confident and capable workforce.
