Overview

Queensland Revenue Office (QRO within Queensland Treasury is responsible for administering state taxes (including duties, payroll tax and land tax), mining and petroleum royalties and certain grants. We also administer camera detected fines and collect and enforce unpaid fines and court orders through the State Penalties Enforcement Registry as part of the justice system and road safety program.

The revenue we collected last year provided $32 billion to help fund essential services and infrastructure, including for health, education, law and order, and transport. This revenue helps to grow our economy and improve the wellbeing of all Queenslanders.

Your opportunity

As an Assistant Commissioner, you will lead the delivery of several functional areas in one of the following QRO Groups:

  • Taxes;

  • Revenue and Grants

  • Fines and SPER (State Penalties and Enforcement Registry);

  • Enabling (i.e., corporate type services)

You will work collaboratively across QRO and develop and sustain strong and capable teams.  You will be committed to a strong culture focus in QRO and drive innovation and evidence-based solutions.

Your Accountabilities

As an Assistant Commissioner, you will:

  • Deliver high-level strategic advice, information and guidance to the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Under Treasurer and Treasurer, and other agencies and stakeholders in relation to legislative, policy and operational issues and trends, innovations and opportunities

  • Actively support the Deputy Commissioner in providing strong strategic leadership across QRO and ensure sound management of operations, budget, work allocation and resources, and accountability for the delivery of work and projects on time and on budget, and a client-centric and solutions-oriented culture focused on achievement, continuous improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing

  • Foster a culture that embraces the sector’s aspirational values and the department’s objectives, delivering flexible, responsive and cost-effective services that align with government priorities.

  • Develop high-level networks, build and maintain strong and effective working relationships, and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders that foster strong business and community relationships.

  • Actively participate in organisational planning within QRO, including strategic and business planning to meet current and future priorities.

Success Criteria

You will need to demonstrate outstanding judgement, high-level integrity, ethics and probity, agility to adapt to a constantly changing environment, a strong achievement orientation, and excellent communication and negotiation skills.

You will have:

  • a record of success as a leader in a large and complex organisation.

  • demonstrated achievements in developing and implementing complex public policy frameworks, initiatives and strategies particularly risk-based revenue administration and compliance management.

  • significant experience across the public, private and/or not for profit sectors with a strong background in service delivery and client service.

  • a proven track record as an agent of change.

  • high-level political acumen and an ability to build strong, strategic relationships and respect with senior members of government.

  • a strong background in navigating and managing highly complex stakeholder engagement and relationships.

Qualifications Technical/educational:

  • While there are no mandatory qualifications for the role, a relevant degree or postgraduate studies would be highly regarded.
