About Us
The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine Limited (ACRRM) is an accredited specialty medical college responsible for setting and maintaining professional standards for specialist general practitioners and rural generalists in Australia.
Nationally, ACRRM has more than 7000 members, including Fellows, trainees and associate members, who live and work in rural, remote and First Nations communities across Australia. Members provide expert front line medical care in a diverse range of settings including general practices, hospitals, emergency departments, Aboriginal health services and other remote settings such as RFDS and the Australian Antarctic Division.
ACRRM’s core business is training and assessing specialist general practitioners for a rural generalist scope of practice, setting clinical standards for rural generalist practice; and support and advocacy services for rural, remote and First Nations communities and the health teams that serve them. The company’s headquarters is located in Brisbane, Queensland although the majority of staff work flexibly from state, regional or rural locations in each State and Territory.

About the Role
General Manager, Education and Training
The General Manager, Education and Training is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance and continuous improvement of ACRRM's Fellowship Training Program and training Services nationally.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the role leads the end-to-end registrar training pathway, ensuring high-quality, compliant and sustainable training outcomes that support the development of Australia's Rural Generalist workforce.
The role is accountable for training strategy, program performance, registrar experience, workforce planning, funding compliance, training network effectiveness and stakeholder engagement. Working in partnership with the General Manager, Quality and Safety, the role ensures education and training delivery aligns with accreditation requirements, educational excellence and organisational objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key accountabilities of the role include:
Strategic Leadership
Lead the strategic direction of ACRRM's education and training portfolio.
• Provide executive advice on workforce, training and policy matters.
• Drive innovation, transformation and continuous improvement.
• Shape national rural generalist workforce initiatives.
• Contribute to organisational strategy as an Executive Leadership Team member.
Training Operations and Performance
Accountable for the effective delivery and performance of ACRRM's Fellowship Training
Program, ensuring high-quality outcomes across registrar selection, enrolment, placement,
progression and completion.
Accountable for the effective stewardship of significant Commonwealth funding, ensuring
appropriate budget development, forecasting, contract management and compliance, risk
management and value for money outcomes.
Ensure a consistent, equitable and positive registrar experience through effective case
management, support services and engagement strategies.
Lead the operational performance of training programs through data-informed decision-making,
continuous improvement and service excellence.
Ensure training systems, processes and resources support efficient operations, accurate
reporting and achievement of organisational objectives.
• Drive innovation and digital enablement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, user
experience and program outcomes.
Educational Governance and Quality
Maintain robust governance frameworks that ensure education and training programs meet
accreditation standards, regulatory requirements and funding obligations.
Partner with the General Manager, Quality and Safety, Education Council, Censor in Chief and
other governance bodies to ensure alignment between educational design, training delivery and
learner outcomes.
Oversee the accreditation, support and quality assurance of supervisors, educators, facilitators
and training posts to maintain safe and effective learning environments.
Ensure training policies, procedures and operating frameworks are transparent, consistent and
support high-quality educational delivery.
Monitor and manage risks relating to training quality, registrar wellbeing, supervision, program
performance and funding compliance.
Promote a culture of quality improvement through evaluation, data analysis and evidence
informed decision-making.
Leadership and Culture
Lead and develop a high-performing, geographically dispersed workforce that delivers
responsive, trusted and member-focused education and training services.
Champion culturally safe education and training practices and partner with First Nations
stakeholders to improve workforce and health outcomes.
Build leadership capability, succession strength and workforce capacity to support future
organisational needs and strategic priorities.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
Work collaboratively across the Executive Leadership Team to strengthen organisational
performance, culture and employee engagement.
Champion ACRRM's values, promoting an inclusive, culturally safe and respectful workplace
where people can thrive and perform at their best.
Stakeholder Engagement
Develop and maintain productive relationships with training program participants, government
agencies and other key stakeholders.
Represent ACRRM in external forums, committees, advisory groups and sector networks
relevant to medical education, training and rural workforce development.
Collaborate with internal portfolios to ensure an integrated, seamless and consistent experience
for registrars, supervisors and members.
Influence and contribute to national discussions, partnerships and initiatives that strengthen
Rural Generalist training and workforce outcomes.
Build trusted relationships with key partners and stakeholders to support advocacy, innovation
and the achievement of ACRRM's strategic objectives.
What Success Looks Like

Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, education, management, public policy, business, leadership or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications are desirable.ere

Significant executive experience in successfully leading, governing and transforming medical education, vocational training, assessment, or academic programs
Experience leading large-scale, geographically dispersed service delivery functions.
Experience working within highly regulated or accredited environments.
Experience working with government departments, managing complex funding arrangements, contractual obligations and stakeholder relationships.
Demonstrated track record of leadership and strong teamwork in high performing teams.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural safety and Indigenous health equity, with an ability to lead culturally responsive services and partnerships.
Demonstrated ability to build and manage partnerships with external providers, supervisors, or stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience managing large budgets, funding agreements, reporting, and compliance or accreditation requirements.
Proven ability to translate complex conceptual or operational information into clear insights and recommendations for executive and committee decision-making.
Proven ability to prepare high-quality papers, proposals, business cases and reports with practical, strategic recommendations.
Lived experience or a deep empathetic understanding of the specific health challenges and issues impacting regional and First Nations communities and medical workforce.
