About the Role
General Manager, Grid Technology
The General Manager Grid Technology is responsible for the ongoing deployment, use and future direction of technology for managing the electricity network in line with strategic business requirements. In addition to managing a comprehensive and secure telecommunications, protection and control capability, the role has a particular focus on identifying, developing and testing new technologies and solutions to enable the Energy Queensland grid to support a low carbon future through the continued integration of renewable generation, electrical vehicles and batteries.
Key Accountabilities
Accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of solutions, policies, strategies, standards, technical specifications and processes for the design, construction, and operation of telecommunications, control, protection and earthing systems as well as intelligent grid enablement and spatial applications, and associated assets, with a focus on innovation, reliability, security, cost, safety and environmental issues, utilising risk based techniques to ensure optimisation of whole of life cost and asset performance.
Accountable for the design, development and implementation of the Operational Technology Environment (OTE) solutions, architectures and services including cyber security, and associated supporting technology.
Assess, develop and test new technological developments in operating electricity networks and recommend what technology should be deployed for the Energy Queensland grid, including facilitating the integration of technology choices of our customers.
Provide strategic technical expertise and consultancy on all aspects of technical innovation.
Deliver appropriate operational telecommunications, protection and earthing systems and settings frameworks for optimal performance of the network asset, through a continuous improvement approach.
Monitor and control the telecommunications network.
Collaborates effectively managing information and confidentiality requirements across Energy Queensland Limited in accordance with applicable ring-fencing parameters.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to health, safety and environment and support a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices.
What Success Looks Like

Essential
Degree qualifications in a related field e.g. Electrical Engineering, and eligible to be a Member of Engineers Australia (MIEAust) and Chartered Professional Engineer CPEng
Desirable
Post graduate qualifications in a related field (Business, Commerce or Project Management)

Extensive experience in a senior leadership role demonstrating behaviours in building high performing teams during times of transformation, change management and continuous improvement.
Advanced level of demonstrated ability to manage the interface and relationship between key service providers and internal and external stakeholders of a complex business.
Demonstrated ability in managing and synthesising key performance data from diverse sources to identify and track trends and proactively identify and manage actions that will support business outcomes and achievement of business targets.
Demonstrated expert knowledge of planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and operating electricity distribution and transmission assets and systems, in particular primary and secondary plant and equipment.
Highly developed analysis and problem-solving skills to enable early identification of changes in the electricity industry and telecommunications and identify new opportunities / types of services that can be provided to customers.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge of the practices involved in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of high voltage substations, overhead and underground lines and protection and control systems operating at distribution and transmission voltages.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical knowledge to stakeholders, supervisors and fellow workers, including strong documentation and presentation skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the application of risk management techniques.
