Overview

Water is essential for life

Seqwater is South East Queensland’s government-owned statutory authority for bulk water supply. We deliver safe, reliable, and affordable drinking water to support the region’s growing communities.

We don’t supply water directly to households - instead, we store, treat and deliver bulk water via SEQ Water Grid, to our water service providers Urban Utilities, Unitywater, Logan Water, Redland City Council, Gold Coast City Council, who then supply to homes and businesses across South East Queensland.

Seqwater is one of the largest and most geographically spread water businesses in Australia, providing water from Gympie down to the Gold Coast, Brisbane across to Redlands and west to the Lockyer Valley.

What we do

  • Supply safe and clean bulk drinking water through the SEQ Water Grid - a connected network of dams, pipelines, and treatment plants - to more than 3.8 million people

  • Manage dams and weirs to provide water storage, flood mitigation, and recreation – the catchments cover 1.2 million hectares of land

  • Care and protect more than 65,000 hectares of land around our catchments for lakes and recreational areas, contributing more than 50% of green space in SEQ outside of national parks

  • Manage 57 recreational areas that attract more than 2.7 million visitors every year for trail walks, camping, fishing and boating

  • Operate water treatment plants to ensure high-quality, safe drinking water that meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines

  • Plan for water security with long-term strategies to meet the needs of a growing population

  • Respond to drought or reduced water supply with flexible infrastructure like the Gold Coast Desalination Plant and recycled water schemes

  • Protect catchments to keep our water sources clean and healthy

  • Provide water to 1200 farmers for irrigation

Our Infrastructure and assets

  • 26 dams and 47 weirs

  • 31 active water treatment plants, with a further 2 on cold standby

  • The Gold Coast Desalination Plant, providing a rainfall-independent water source

  • The SEQ Water Grid, connecting communities with a resilient, flexible water supply with over 600 km of pipelines

  • The Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme, on standby for drought response

Our commitment

As a Queensland Government statutory authority, we’re committed to:

  • Delivering safe, clean, affordable and reliable water for our region

  • Investing in infrastructure and dam safety

  • Planning for future water security and climate variability

  • Protecting and promoting our environment and catchments for recreation

  • Being customer focused and working with local communities and stakeholders
