About the Role

Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Engagement

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team at Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), the Executive Director Corporate Affairs and Engagement plays a pivotal role in shaping and protecting the organisation's reputation while advancing the interests of Queensland's tourism and events industry.

This is a highly influential leadership opportunity for an accomplished corporate affairs, government relations or communications executive who thrives at the intersection of government, industry, media and public policy.

Connecting Government, Industry and Community

The Executive Director leads the functions that connect TEQ with the stakeholders who shape Queensland's tourism and events landscape. Working across government, industry, regional networks, local communities and the media, the role helps ensure TEQ remains informed, influential and responsive in a complex operating environment.

Providing strategic counsel to the CEO, Board and Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Director brings insight into emerging issues, stakeholder priorities and government directions, helping position TEQ to effectively support the state's visitor economy and deliver on its strategic objectives.

Building Influence Through Relationships

At the heart of the role is the development of strong and enduring relationships. The Executive Director works closely with ministers, government departments, regional tourism organisations, local government, industry leaders and key partners to foster collaboration and advance outcomes that benefit Queensland's tourism and events sector.

The role also provides leadership across TEQ's stakeholder engagement, destination partnerships and host program functions, ensuring the organisation maintains meaningful connections with the people, places and communities it serves.

Leading Reputation and Response

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the functions that protect and enhance TEQ's reputation, including corporate communications, issues management and strategic stakeholder engagement. The role balances long-term reputation building with the ability to respond effectively to emerging opportunities, issues and changing stakeholder expectations.

An important component of the portfolio is providing leadership during times of crisis or disruption. The Executive Director oversees TEQ's approach to crisis and disaster communication and engagement, ensuring the organisation is prepared to respond with clarity, coordination and confidence when significant events impact the tourism and events industry.

Shaping Organisational Direction

Beyond the portfolio itself, the Executive Director contributes to the broader leadership of TEQ as a member of the Executive Leadership Team. The role brings an enterprise-wide perspective to strategic decision-making, governance and organisational performance, while leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering impact across some of TEQ's most visible and externally focused functions.

The breadth of the role provides the opportunity to influence outcomes at a state-wide level, helping shape how TEQ engages with its stakeholders, responds to challenges and opportunities, and supports the continued growth and success of Queensland's tourism and events industry.
